Leadership is a fascinating, responsible, demanding task. Still today, young scientists are often not well prepared for taking over leadership responsibility. This seminar provides you with important basics about leadership that will support you at the beginning of stepping into this responsibility.

Methods

Trainer input; individual, partner, and group work; case and situations of the group; brief presentations by participants; group reflection. Also the online version is highly interactive with a lot of small group tasks in zoom breakout sessions.

Führungsworkshop mit Matthias Mayer

Zwei intensive Tage mit grundlegenden Informationen kombiniert mit Gruppenarbeit und Zeit zum Nachdenken über die eigenen Kollegen und sich selbst. Matthias gab einen vollständigen Überblick über die Aufgaben einer Führungskraft und gab Ratschläge, wie man eine gute Führungskraft sein kann.

Für mich war es sehr wichtig, meine eigene Persönlichkeit zu verstehen, welche Führungskompetenzen ich bereits mitbringe und an welchen Punkten ich noch an mir arbeiten kann. Die Diskussionen und der Input zur konstruktiven Kritik und Konfliktbewältigung haben mir sehr gut gefallen. Die für mich wichtigsten Aussagen, die ich aus dem Workshop mitnehme, sind:
* Führung ist harte Arbeit – hören Sie also nie auf, sich selbst zu reflektieren – geben und verlangen Sie Feedback – und hören Sie nie auf, dazuzulernen. Motivieren Sie Ihre Mitarbeiter individuell und persönlich. Und vor allem: Seien Sie bereit zu scheitern! *

Should be mandatory for anyone in a leadership position

I am thankful for the opportunity given to me at the university of Freiburg, to attend the two-day leadership skills seminar. I very much enjoyed it and certainly took a lot for my future career path. For me the most interesting was to learn about people's different personality types and needs and how this requires dynamic leadership styles for individuals.

During the seminar, I had flashbacks to my problems in the past with weak leaders. I even wished that participation in such workshops would be mandatory for anyone who is employed in a high leadership position, i.e. professors. But more than that, I felt very much encouraged to learn from those mistakes and practice better leadership concepts with my students.

The seminar was very well organized and prepared. I noticed and appreciated that Matthias still considered the feedback from the group and made changes as well, i.e. included short fun games as breaks. [...]
